From 1974 untill this very moment HALF of Cyprus is occupied by Turkish military troops

The invasion in the summer of 1974.... Turkish troops invaded this Peaceful island... We are barley 750,000 people... They came, Tortured, raped, killed, brought HELL. People had to flee for their Lives. There are missing people until this very day. WE WANT FREEDOM!!! THE TURKISH TROOPS MUST LEAVE. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY. UN can do much more but all this is simply a Game of interests... We will keep on fighting until the day we go to Our historic lands. .
The Republic of Cyprus gained its independence in 1960 when Britain relinquished her colonial rule and granted independence to the island.
This was the latest scenario in a succession of major acts in which the island featured, because of its geographical position - attracting foreign invaders and colonizers throughout its history that can be traced back to the sixth millennium BC
But it was not destined to be the last act.
Once again, it was foreign intervention that brought it about: in 1974 the dictators who then ruled Greece staged an abortive coup against Archbishop Makarios, then President of Cyprus, and Turkey launched an invasion "to restore constitutional order". Twenty two years on, 37% of the island still remains under the invaders' occupation in defiance of United Nations Resolutions of unequivocal substance. And the "Cyprus Problem" has become a major dispute in the sensitive Middle East. This compilation includes facts and figures, business and general information on Cyprus which should be useful to editors, politicians, diplomats, tourists, economists and business travelers for quick and reliable reference.

In the August of 1996 a peaceful demonstration that started from the last divided capital in the West, the city of Berlin and ended to the only divided city in Europe Lefkosia (Nikosia) in Cyprus. Bikers from allover the world have come to protest the disgrace of an illegal and immoral occupation.
Among the unarmed demonstrators marching towards the north was Tassos Isaak. Little he know that he was never to see again the girl he has just married to, nor he would ever see his daughter, about to be born. Two more civilians followed Tasso Isaak to death, all murdered by the Turkish invasion force.

One final note: The European parliament has demanded the arrest and prosecution of the murderers. The Turkish government still harbors them, and steadfastly denied complying. Until today, the murderers are free.
